(Imported From Old Livejournal Blog)Recently, in an RP I play in called Reploid War, I joined one of the missions that the GMs run regularly for the players. The missions go on in their own threads on the forum. However, they have a problem I call, "Their names are all too damned similar." My case in this point happened only recently.
Now before I get into the details of the story, I'd like to give a little background. The RP is based in the Mega Man X universe, and they have a really cool system set up for stats and stuff. The mods are generally nice, as are the GMs. I bear no ill will towards the RP itself, only a certain mod who shall not be named because, I don't who it is. My character is the HCM, also affectionately known as HUcco Mucco and formally known as the Hunter Control Matrix.
I had joined a mission called "Maverick Base Invasion." Between sign up and a mission's starting, there is a lot of downtime where nothing is happening. Sometimes, it can last several weeks. Also, as I understood it, there was another mission with about the same name that had to finish up before the mission could begin. I was waiting for that mission to finish and my new mission to begin.
Little did I know that during that time, the mission had started. It quickly got up to 4 pages of RP goodness. Since I had made no posts in the thread, the Mods must've thought I abandoned my character so one of them (who I now don't like but don't know the name of) asked another player to kill off my HCM. Please note, that I had no idea this was going on.
At this point I got a PM with the header, "Hucco Mucco has fallen." Surprised, I clicked to read the full text of the PM.
"Hunter Control Matrix got THRACK'd. My apologies."
So I sat in my chair, my jaw agape, thinking, "How can they kill my character in a mission I'm not in?" Wanting more details, I checked into the thread I thought was the mission still going on from before. The second most recent post had it right there plain, simple, and violent. The HCM was destroyed by an onslaught of chains. It was obliterated completely, reduced to SCRAP METAL.
Needless to say, I was fucking pissed.
However, soon the matter was rectified. I talked to another MOD. He agreed that my character's destruction was unjust so he let me start a new character with all the experience I had gained as the previous one. And I think I've done alright crafting my new guy.
And I request that any readers I may have check out Reploid War. It really is a lot of fun.
